SV Base Haus: Elegance in simplicity

Disclaimer: I’m incredibly grateful to @FreefallMFG for sending these out for me to check out/review. While I appreciate the opportunity, rest assured that my review is entirely unbiased and based solely on my personal experience with the product.

Pad Design: The pad features a sleek and minimalist look. It's an all-black surface with smooth edges and a small, unobtrusive logo in the top-right corner.

SPECS:  Price: USD $34.99 (tax included; shipping not included) | CAD $51.00 (tax included; shipping not included)

Size: 450x450mm with 3mm thickness | 501x501mm with 3mm thickness (coming soon)

SIZE: The Freefall Haus mousepad is currently available in a single size of 450x450x3mm, with plans to release a larger 501x501x3mm version in the future. After measuring the review unit, I found the dimensions to be spot on. While the sizing felt unusual at first, I quickly got used to it. It’s great to see that a larger size is in the works, as that seems to be what many users are seeking these days.

PRICE: The Freefall Haus mousepad is priced at approximately $50 USD, which includes tax and shipping when ordered from their website. For Canadian buyers, the total comes to $87 CAD, also shipped directly from Freefall. This places the pad in the mid-range of premium options.

The higher cost is mainly due to shipping, as the pad is shipped flat to avoid creases—a thoughtful touch for presentation and usability.

If you’re able to cover the shipping/overall cost, I’d say the pad is worth it. It delivers excellent quality for the price, and Freefall backs their products with great customer service and a lifetime warranty, which adds significant value.

At the moment, there’s no Canadian retailer for Freefall products, so the best way to get one is by ordering directly from their website.

STITCHING/BASE: The stitching on the Haus Mousepad is tightly woven, flat, and sits flush with the surface, ensuring no interference during use. I encountered no issues with fraying, loose threads, or surface inconsistencies. After thorough use, the pad still looks brand new, with no visible wear.

The base uses Freefall’s SV Base technology (patent pending), which sticks exceptionally well to the desk. My vinyl-wrapped desk experienced no slipping or movement at all. Upon swapping it in for my previous pad with a poron base, the SV Base immediately adapted and held firm.

Note: Removing the pad can create minor electrostatic buildup, so keep that in mind.

In terms of firmness, this is a hard pad—there’s no cushioning or give. Dot skates performed faster during my testing, while full skates provided better control. For added precision, I’d recommend full skates.

PACKAGING: The Haus mousepad arrives in a clean, flat brown box. The front features the same logo as the pad, while the back includes basic warnings (translated into another language) and specifications. Inside, the pad is securely wrapped in plastic, with a paper layer covering the base to protect it from dust during shipping.

While no extras are included, the packaging is practical and keeps the pad safe and presentable.

PERFORMANCE/SURFACE: The Hauspad impresses right out of the box. It has a short break-in period where the glide feels slightly faster, but after a few days, it settles into a smoother, more balanced speed. Sitting on the faster end of balanced pads, it offers an excellent mix of speed and control. Thanks to the high-quality materials and SV Base, the surface maintains its consistency even with heavy use.

What sets the Hauspad apart is how it redefines hardpads. While it’s technically a hardpad, it offers ample control and feedback, blending the best of both worlds. The firm SV Base ensures a smooth, consistent glide that’s ideal for tracking in games like Rivals and Overwatch 2.

A standout feature is its responsiveness to pressure. Pressing down slightly slows the glide, offering greater control for micro-adjustments without feeling restrictive. While it doesn’t provide the same heavy control as softer pads, its speed makes it perfect for fast-paced games where precision is key.

If you enjoy mid/hard-base pads or are looking to try something unique, the Freefall Hauspad is worth checking out. It strikes an impressive balance between speed, control, and consistency, delivering a fresh and exciting experience.

TL;DR

The Freefall Hauspad is a sleek, minimalist mousepad designed for performance and durability. Available in 450x450x3mm, with a larger size coming soon, it features a firm surface, tightly woven stitching, and the innovative SV Base for exceptional grip and consistency.

Out of the box, it has a faster glide that smooths out after a short break-in period, settling into a balanced speed perfect for tracking and fast-paced games like Overwatch 2. The hard surface offers precise control and feedback, with pressure on the pad allowing for added stability during micro-adjustments.

Priced around $50 USD ($87 CAD shipped), it’s a well-made option for those seeking a high-performance hardpad. If you’re into mid-base designs or want to try something different, the Hauspad is definitely worth a look.
